Another 40mm yesterday has Cannon Creek over the crossing down below the main home. After getting 3 vehicles stuck last week, I decided to park the car and walk. It is a bit safer. The problem is getting traction. The Granite Belt turns to slush. But it is great to have plenty of water for a change. Just in from the crossing below the main home, the water is rushing down into the Gorge. This is one of my favourite places when there are multiple cascades and sounds of water. The dam has still a fair bit to go before reaching the spill way but this Australasian grebe isn't complaining. It is great to see some of the birdlife around recently. The other thing that is pretty cool at the moment is the fungi. And the Banksia and the 5 Corner Berries are flourishing. To finish off, below is a picture of a rock that we have walked past for over 20 years and I don't recall anyone ever commenting on the man's face. i think he's pretty good. Where do you reckon this rock is to be found? Regards... Take care out there. Mark & Donna.

At long last, the drought is broken, Storm King dam is flowing over, and out here at Earth & Soul we've had 204mm so far for March 2021, 164mm just in the last few days. The tanks at the new Earth Cabin are up to 11 rungs in both tanks. The dam is about half full and it's still seeping in. Sadly, after being dry for so long, there are always some casualties when the ground becomes so wet and soft. And then there are some other good things to treasure... It is great to have everything looking alive again and it will be interesting to keep getting out & about looking for new plants and animals. See you again soon...
Regards... Mark & Donna Well, rare for us any way. A very pale or white Hyacinth orchid. Can anyone help me out here with a name?
Despite the hot, dry weather the wildflowers are better than they have been for the last two years or so. The paperbark down Cannon Creek are fantastic which makes for a nice walk. The highlight though is the Yellow Hyacinth or Yellow Tiger Orchid (Dipodium hamiltonianum). This is only the second one of these we have found on the property. I was clearing some wild rosemary up at the St Bernard Rock Picnic area when I uncovered this rare find. Made my day! |
